Pittsfield Bicentennial and Depot Pictures


Pittsfield bicentennial - The bicentennial of Pittsfield will be celebrated this year, and the Pittsfield Railroad Station (built in 1888 by Maine Central Railroad) is being restored with financial support from Cianbro. The station is now a museum, and the town library is across the tracks from it. The town is hosting various events in June 2019.  Below are two photographs of the train station at different times (from the Pittsfield Historical Society). The Depot, Railway Express building, and a Grain Elevator, from a postcard circa 1920.

MEC 470 at Pittsfield Maine in 1954 and the 2019 Pittsfield Bicentennial

Here is a picture of the 470 taken in 1954. Its a rainy day and there is a crowd on the platform, so this may have been taken during the last passenger run on June 13, 1954.


Pittsfield is celebrating its Bicentennial on June 18-19, 2019. The newly restored railroad station will be opened during the celebration The restoration was funded by Cianbro.
